In response to the current cost-pushing increase in phosphate fertilizer prices, the China Phosphate Fertilizer Industry Association and the China Sulfuric Acid Industry Association called on key enterprises to maintain industry self-regulation and stabilize phosphate fertilizer prices. At the same time, they have taken active measures to ease the pressure of rising raw material prices through joint procurement of sulphur and the pursuit of export policies. This was learned by the reporter from the Symposium on key enterprises of ammonium phosphate and sulfur held in Beijing on October 18.
According to the latest statistics from the China Phosphate Fertilizer Industry Association, since the second half of the year, international sulphur prices have risen rapidly. At present, China’s trade price has more than doubled from July to US$188/ton, and there is still an upward trend. In addition, affected by the limited production and suspended production rectification of ammonia companies in various regions, the price of synthetic ammonia has been rising continuously, and the price in most regions has exceeded 3,000 yuan/ton, causing the production cost of phosphorus compound fertilizers to rise with rising raw materials; Compound fertilizer prices have shown a recovering increase, especially the monoammonium phosphate price has picked up rapidly. The ex-factory price of 55% powdered monoammonium phosphate is 2,350 to 2,400 yuan per ton, a larger increase than last year.
Wu Xiyan, chairman of the Phosphate Fertilizer Association, said that it is currently in a crucial period for formulating macro-control policies for fertilizers next year, and that the prices of food and related agricultural products have risen. The relevant government departments have paid unusual attention to the increase in fertilizer prices. It is hoped that large-scale phosphate fertilizer companies will actively implement price self-regulation and control the ex-factory prices of phosphate fertilizers, especially monoammonium, while increasing production, meeting supply, ensuring the domestic market supply in the autumn and next spring, and stabilizing domestic market prices.
In response to rising prices of sulfur and other raw materials, the director of the Sulphuric Acid Association Qi Tong suggested that phosphate fertilizer companies carefully purchase high-priced sulfur. As China's sulphur import accounts for more than 40% of the world's total, the major producers and traders of sulphur should join forces to gain the right to speak in the international market, jointly stabilize the import price of sulphur, and safeguard the interests of the industry. In addition, the two major associations will further play their role in striving for a relatively favorable export policy next year, seizing the opportunity for enterprises to increase production capacity, adequate supply in the domestic market, and higher export prices for international phosphate fertilizers to ease the company’s cost pressures.
