279 projects won the National Science and Technology Award

January 9, 2016 National Science and Technology Award Conference held in Beijing. Judging from the overall results of this year's award-winning achievements, especially high-level awards, our country has a place in the major scientific and technological fields and directions in the world and is changing from a runner to a co-leader and a leader.
The 2016 National Science and Technology Awards a total of 279 projects, seven scientific and technical experts and an international organization. Among them, the State Supreme Science and Technology Award 2; National Natural Science Award 42, of which a first prize, second prize 41; 66 national technology invention awards, including the first prize 3, 63 second prize; 171 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, including 2 Grand Prizes, 20 First Prizes and 149 Second Prizes; and 5 Foreign Experts in Science and Technology and 1 International Organization for Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China.
Significant landmark results now
A series of major scientific and technological achievements, represented by mobile 4G and BeiDou navigation, have reversed the passive situation in which China's core technologies and intellectual property rights are controlled by others and reshaped the industrial pattern in the world. This is a successful example of China's innovation-driven development.
TD-LTE, which won the 2016 National Science and Technology Progress Award, is the fourth generation of mobile communication technology (referred to as 4G), which was first marketed to the world by China's leading mobile technology standard. From the gap of 1G era, the 2G era, the breakthrough of 3G era, until the 4G era entered the mainstream, China's mobile communication technology has stepped out of the development path of a standard Chinese rising star.
The other special award --- Beidou-2 satellite project, is a major national science and technology project, which is a key step forward for the "three-step" development strategy of China's Beidou satellite navigation system.
Since its establishment in August 2004, the project has lasted for 8 years to complete the research and construction, and completed the Beidou-2 satellite navigation system operated by 14 satellite networks and 32 ground stations world-wide. In December 2012, China and the Asia-Pacific region to provide navigation, positioning, timing and short message communication services, service area system performance comparable with similar systems abroad, reached the international advanced level over the same period.
Guo Shu-ren, chief designer assistant of Beidou II satellite project, believes that the project has achieved a number of pioneering achievements in the field of international satellite navigation and China's aerospace industry and has taken the road of development of a satellite navigation system that is unique to China's national conditions and unique to China.
With the successful completion of the Beidou-2 satellite project, China has basically got rid of its dependence on foreign satellite navigation systems, thoroughly mastered the control over space-time standards and the initiative in the development of the satellite navigation industry, and formulated the international discourse right for China's economy Construction and national defense provided a strong guarantee.
Basic research into the forefront of the world
Following the success of the first prize of the National Natural Science Award for iron-based HTS in 2015 and multi-photon entanglement in 2015, another major achievement in the field of physics has won the award this year. China's basic research is entering the forefront of science and technology in the world.
The new model of neutrino oscillation discovered by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment, which won the first prize of the Natural Science Award, is the original scientific result led by Chinese scientists and the first particle physics parameter measured in China. In the international energy physics The community has had a major impact.
This major achievement in 2012 has drawn a lot of attention since its birth, and the United States of America Science named it one of the top ten scientific breakthroughs in 2012. The Daya Bay Pilot Cooperation Group consists of 38 research institutes and some 270 researchers from China, the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, of which about 150 are from 16 universities and institutes in the Mainland.
