Experts: China's public charity cause is in urgent need of great development

Beijing, September 6th Symposium on "Reform and Development of Charity in China" was held in Beijing on the 6th. Experts at the meeting pointed out that China’s philanthropic industry urgently needs a big development, mainly because the current pervasive bad social atmosphere and social atmosphere urgently need correction.

Chen Zongxing, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), pointed out at the meeting that since China’s reform and opening up, charitable causes have made great progress, the organization system has been further developed, service capabilities have been further improved, the development environment has further improved, and the public’s understanding of charity causes has also deepened. At the same time, this business is also facing challenges and problems, such as the total amount of charitable donations and per capita donations is still relatively small, charitable regulations and policies are not yet perfect, charitable organizations' own capacity needs to be further improved, public charity professionals and The development needs of public charity organizations are still not suited to other needs.

Chen Zongxing proposed to establish a sound long-term mechanism for the development of charitable charities based on China's national conditions, and accelerate the establishment of a comprehensive social service system.

“You can't really let the charity fall into a depression and stop!” Zheng Gongcheng, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, executive council member of the Chinese Economic and Social Council, and professor at Renmin University of China, emphasized at the conference that the charity was hit by the negative impact of individual events. In the context of a low tide, misunderstandings should not continue to hinder the normal, healthy and sustainable development of philanthropy.

Zheng Gongcheng believes that China’s current development of philanthropy must abandon the two extremes of government-sponsored and laissez-faire non-governmental charitable organizations. Instead, it requires both the enthusiasm and autonomy of social organizations and all walks of life to hold philanthropy, and it also requires the government to Promoting the development of philanthropy is a powerful force that plays a role in legal construction, fiscal and tax support, and effective supervision.

In addition, after discussion and exchange, the participants believed that the reform and development of China's charitable philanthropy cannot be separated from China’s national conditions, and must establish a new system of public charity with Chinese characteristics; it is necessary to do a good job of legislation to truly incorporate the development of charity philanthropy into legalization. Tracks, regulate the operation of charities, establish and improve the supervision and management system of charities.

According to statistics, in 2011, China received donations totaling 84.5 billion yuan from all sectors of society at home and abroad. At present, China has 2,711 existing foundations. (Finish)
