With the implementation of tire labeling methods in many countries and regions and the improvement of China's energy conservation and emission reduction targets, the high performance of tires has become an inevitable trend. Solvent-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) can be used as a tread rubber for high-performance tires to improve overall tire performance. However, the domestic SSBR is only equivalent to the first generation or second generation of foreign products, while foreign countries have now developed third-generation, fourth-generation or even fifth-generation SSBR. Moreover, there is still a certain gap between the domestic SSBR and the requirements of tire companies in product serialization and quality. Therefore, it is imperative for SSBR manufacturers to increase technical input, increase the SSBR product number, and improve product quality.
In recent years, with the rapid development of polymer synthesis and molecular design technologies, the quality and performance of SSBR have been continuously improved. Although China's SSBR has a certain scale of production capacity, but the device utilization is not high, domestic users are also unstable, and mostly for shoe-making enterprises. For reasons of cost and processing technology, most tire companies in China use slightly cheaper butadiene styrene rubber, and the use of high-performance SSBR is low. Experts believe that there are three main points, one is subject to domestic tire processing and application conditions, currently only a few large tire companies in China engaged in the application of SSBR research, most of the small and medium-sized tire companies still have applications in processing equipment and matching technology SSBR conditions; Second, the proportion of domestic high-end cars is small, the demand for high-performance tires is not urgent, the demand for SSBR is not too much; third is less domestic SSBR brand, from product performance can not meet the requirements of various products.
EU Tire Labeling Law will take effect on November 1, 2012. Car tires, light truck tires, truck tires, and bus tires sold in the EU must be labeled to indicate the tire's fuel efficiency, rolling noise, and wet grip level. . In addition, as the national energy-saving emission reduction efforts increase, SSBR's advantages in reducing rolling resistance and improving wet grip strength are highlighted. Under this background, it is an urgent task for domestic SBR manufacturers to develop compatible product brands, strengthen application research, and improve technical service and after-sales service according to the needs of users.
In recent years, many SBR research and development and technological reforms have been carried out in China. The Department of Chemical Engineering of Dalian University of Technology and Yanshan Petrochemical Institute have synthesized butadiene-styrene block copolymers with n-butyllithium as initiator. Compared with ordinary styrene-butadiene rubber, it not only has good physical and mechanical properties, but also has low rolling resistance and high wet skid resistance.
A downstream related project of Shanghai Secco’s 900,000-ton ethylene project—the annual output of 100,000 tons of styrene-butadiene rubber is the largest in its kind in China. The project uses butadiene and styrene raw materials provided by Shanghai Secco's ethylene project. , Japan's Asahi Kasei Corporation's solution continuous production technology to produce solution styrene butadiene rubber and low cis-polybutadiene rubber products. The production scale is 58,500 tons/year of low-cis polybutadiene rubber and 41,500 tons/year of polybutadiene-butadiene rubber.
Sinopec Baling Petrochemical Company has also adjusted the SBS grades in terms of refined serialization, and adapted some SBS installations to achieve the purpose of co-producing SSBR and low cis-polybutadiene rubber (LCBR). On July 25, 2011, Baling Petrochemical's Synthetic Rubber Division succeeded in independently producing 4.32 tons of SSBR new products on the thermoplastic rubber SBS plant, and all the indicators have reached the quality standards of similar foreign products. At the end of 2011, Baling Petrochemical also produced a new 1.5-ton SSBR grade product, and its product performance has reached the standard of similar products of LANXESS.
