Wärtsilä modified LNG power for product tankers

The product tanker "Bit Viking" is currently the first vessel in Wärtsilä to be converted from heavy fuel oil to LNG fuel. After the conversion, the vessel can meet the requirements of the Norwegian NOx Emissions Fund project to reduce the oxide emission tax.
It is reported that the modification work was completed in October this year and delivered to the shipowner Tarbit Shipping. The operator is Statoil, which is mainly operated on the Norwegian coast. After the modification, it can meet the Norwegian NOx Emissions Fund project and can apply for financial support from the project.
According to Wärtsilä, this is the first time that the global shipbuilding industry has converted the W?rtsil? 46 engine into a W?rtsil? 50DF engine. It is also the first time to install the 50DF machine to the ship's mechanical propulsion system. The "Bit Viking" is therefore also It will become one of the most environmentally friendly product tankers in the world.
As early as August last year, Wärtsilä signed a turnkey project contract with Tarbit Shipping to convert the “Bit Viking” into LNG power operation. The complete set of Wärtsilä's modifications include gas fuel system, piping system and two 6 cylinders W. The ?rtsil? 46 engine was converted into a W?rtsil? 50DF engine and related control system, so the corresponding system on the ship was adapted to the modification.
The classification of the ship has also been upgraded. It is the first LNG fuel-powered ship of the German Lloyd's Register. The engine is directly connected to the propeller shaft through the reduction gearbox, which can avoid the power loss of the diesel-electric configuration, significantly improve the propulsion efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption and corresponding pollution emissions.
The “Bit Viking” also uses Wärtsilä's new LNG storage system, LNGPac, to ensure safe and convenient LNG storage. The transmission speed of two 500 cubic meters LNG storage tanks reaches 430 cubic meters per hour, which can guarantee the ship to operate automatically for 80 days with 80% load and switch to marine gas fuel.
