Indian scientists cultivate seedless mango

Mango is rich in calcium, potassium, antioxidants, vitamins A and C and other beneficial elements. But eating mango often leads to stains everywhere, the main reason being that the core is too big. Now, Indian fruit scientists have come up with a solution to produce a sweet, juicy, seedless mango.


A team of horticultural researchers from the Agricultural University of Bihar (BAU) in India, led by Patel, developed a seedless mango using a hybrid of mango varieties. Tests of seedless mangoes are being carried out at various locations throughout India. At the same time, it is slightly different from ordinary mangoes, with less yellow pulp fibers and an average weight of 200 grams.
Patel’s team plans to provide new varieties to mango growers during the next planting season. “Non-nuclear varieties also have good export sales potential. The quality products we provide will open up the export market in 2015.”
